Incomparable Venice
From Piazzale Roma take water bus no. 1 which will bring you to St. Mark's Square. On the way you will be able to admire one of Venice's most beautiful buildings, overlooking the Grand Canal and built by one of Venice's most important families as a symbol of power and prestige. In St. Mark's Square you can visit the Basilica of the same name, one of the city's symbols and then go on a tour of the Ducal Palace, a world heritage site. The Ducal Palace houses the private residences of the Doge, the institutional rooms, the armoury, the internal courtyards and the famous "Piombi" prisons, which you can access through the notorious Bridge of Sighs. It also houses numerous masterpieces by great Venetian painters including Veronese, Tiziano and Tiepolo. Later you will be able to climb up to the bell tower of St. Mark's, from where you can enjoy a breath-taking view over the whole city and the lagoon. In St. Mark's Square we would also like to point out the Clocktower and the Correr Museum. From the Square then take Calle Larga XXII Marzo which will lead you to the Church of San Moisè, a true example of Venetian baroque. Proceed towards the Frezzeria and the Mercerie, the most exclusive arteries of Venetian shopping. You can also visit the Church of San Salvador, which houses works of art by Bellini, Tiziano and Sansovino. Arrival at Rialto Bridge, another one of the symbols of Venice and return to Piazzale Roma, through the Strada Nuova, another important shopping street.
The other Venice
From Piazzale Roma continue as far as the Church of the Frari, inside which you can admire works of art by Canova, Tiziano and Donatello. Nearby you will also find the Great School of San Rocco, which houses works by Tintoretto, Tiziano and other artists from the Venetian School. From here you can proceed as far as the Galleria dell'Accademia, the largest collection present in Venice, which houses the most important collection of Venetian paintings as well as works by Giorgione and Leonardo da Vinci, among which, the drawings of the Vitruvian Man. After visiting the Museum, you can enjoy a relaxing walk as far as Punta della Dogana and from here, visit the beautiful and mysterious Church of Madonna della Salute (Our Lady of Health), the masterly work of Longhena. From the Chiesa della Salute you can reach St. Mark's Square via water bus no. 1 and from there take no. 82 as far as the island of San Giorgio, from where you will be able to enjoy one of the most suggestive and photogenic views over St. Mark's Basin. Take water bus no. 82 again and this time get off at Giudecca island, an old Jewish quarter, where you will also find the ancient Chiesa del Redentore (Church of the Redeemer). Take water bus no. 82 again and get off at Zattere, from here you will be able to go on one of Venice's most beautiful walks, through the Fondamenta delle Zattere. From here you can return to Piazzale Roma either on foot or by taking water bus no. 52.
Venice, lagoon and islands
From Piazzale Roma take water bus n°52 as far as the island of Murano, which is known throughout the world for its glassware. Here you can visit one of the famous glassworks or the Glass Museum. After your visit you can stroll around the island and visit the Basilica of Saints Mary and Donato, a Venetian-Byzantine structure. From Murano you can reach the island of Burano taking water bus no. 12, this island is famous for its lace technique and its picturesque coloured houses. We recommend that you go for lunch to one of the island's renowned restaurants. From Burano you can reach the island of Torcello with motorship no. 12. Torcello housed Venice's first inhabitants. On the island you can still visit the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption which dates back to the 7th century, where you can admire the magnificent mosaics of the Last Judgement. Take motorship no. 12 to return to Venice and get off at Fondamenta Nuove. From here you can take Strada Nuova and stop off at the Ghetto, the old Jewish district and visit the Museum and the Israelite School, before returning to Piazzale Roma.
